George Eugene Wilkinson, Jr.
October 27, 1925 – December 4, 2013
Forsyth . . . . . . Mr. George Eugene “Pop”, Wilkinson, Jr. went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 after a short illness. “Pop” was the son of the late George E. Wilkinson, Sr. and Birdie (Moore) Wilkinson. He was born in Anniston, Alabama. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was wounded in the Hurtgen Forest of Germany in 1945 an awarded the Purple Heart. He later served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 1948 to Nov. 1952 (Korean War). He lived most of his life in California and moved to Forsyth to live with his daughter in 2005.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his daughter Jane C. Haygood (Lannie), grandson Jay Haygood (Kathie) of Forsyth, granddaughter Tricia King (Greg) of Chattanooga, Tn., great grandchildren; Ben Haygood, Erik Haygood, Jacob Haygood, Leah Haygood, all of Forsyth and Durham King of Chattanooga, Tn. He is also survived by brothers Tommy Wilkinson of Anniston, Ala., Skeet Wilkinson of Washington State, sisters Margaret Sparks of Texas, Eloise Tinker of Marietta, Ga. and Tootsie Jennings (Curt) of Anniston, Ala.
Family will greet visitors from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday December 7, 2013, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm at Monroe County Memorial Chapel the Rev. Ken Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia at a later date.
