Carolyn McKenney Young Regan
Forsyth….Carolyn McKenney Young Regan passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with burial in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. Dr. H. Darrell Watson will officiate. The family will greet friends the day of the service at 10:00 AM until the hour of the service, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Regan, the daughter of the late Berner McKenney and Bessie Maria Gose McKenney was born April 9, 1916, in Smarr, Georgia. Her family moved to Miami in 1926, where she graduated from Miami Senior High School and married Hanford Earl Young in 1934. In 1977, they retired and moved to Sebring, Florida, where they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Following Hanford’s death she met and married Charles Frances Regan. They spent 10 happy years together. After the death of her second husband in 2008, Carolyn returned to Forsyth to be close to family and her childhood roots. She enjoyed the last 3 years of her life at the Carousel House Assisted Living Facility. Carolyn was a devout Christian throughout her life, teaching adult ladies Sunday School at Allapattah Baptist and Sebring Baptist Churches in Florida. She was an avid gardener, winning a blue ribbon for her orchids at the Metropolitan Miami Flower Show. She enjoyed bird watching and delighted friends and family with her original landscape paintings.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Patsy Carroll McKenney of Forsyth, nieces, Patricia McKenney Showman of McDonough, Joyce Fisher Reynolds of Jacksonville, Florida, and Catherine McKenney Freeman of Charlotte, North Carolina and nephew Robert Fisher of Long Beach, Mississippi. She was predeceased by her niece Betsy McKenney Falcon Vatne.
