Tom Rogers

December 14, 1932 — December 10, 2012

Tom Rogers Tom Rogers, of Forsyth, Georgia, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on December 10, 2012, just four days prior to his 80th birthday. He served our Lord faithfully, and his passion was to help people learn how to study the Bible so they would understand God better. In fact, he was teaching a Bible class when he suffered a heart attack. He was born during the Christmas season to James and Rosebud Rogers in LaGrange, GA. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and received a purple heart for injuries sustained as a POW. To alleviate the pain from these injuries, he began ballroom dancing lessons and went on to become an instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Atlanta, where he met his life-long dance partner. Tom retired from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s department in 1986 and the Georgia State Public Training Center in Forsyth, GA in 1996, where he taught civil law. He was an ordained Baptist minister, and his church had no walls, as he shared his faith with everyone. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Gail Manning Rogers, along with his children Robert (Dagmar) Rogers of Forsyth, GA, Steve (Denise) Rogers of Forsyth, GA, Matt (Alice) Rogers of Forsyth, GA, Tony (Lyndie) Rogers of Land of Lakes, FL and Beth (Chris) Dean of Macon, GA, and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bill Rogers of Newnan, GA and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. His home going celebration will be held at New Providence Baptist Church in Smarr, GA on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with interment in Monroe Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Brian Moore will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2012, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Providence Baptist Church building fund and mailed to PO Box 381, Smarr, GA 31086 Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
