Stanley Dean Howells Macon . . . Stanley Dean Howells died Sunday, December 2, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Ingleside Baptist Church Chapel. Burial will be private in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Timothy McCoy and Reverend Mark Hudgins will officiate. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. following the service. Mr. Howells, the son of the late William Dean Howells and Marguerite Wagner Leonard was born August 1, 1932, in Macon, Georgia. He was educated in Bibb County Schools, attended Georgia Military Academy. He was recruited by Shug Jordan and played football for Auburn University as a defensive linebacker. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Howells received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal of Army of Occupation Medal. He served in the 169th Infantry. After serving, he went on to get his degree from Southern Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. He then married his sweetheart Betty in 1957. He was a homebuilder, building homes and apartments in Macon, Georgia and surrounding areas for forty plus years. He was President of the Home Builders Association in 1973. A proud and active member of Ingleside Baptist Church for fifty-six years. He loved his church, serving for years as Sunday school teacher in the youth department, men’s classes and couples classes. He was a faithful teacher before Sunday School to the fire department on Riverside Drive for many years. He served as deacon and chairman of the board of deacons, on numerous pastor church search committees, even serving responsible for bringing his beloved pastor and friend Timothy McCoy to Ingleside. He loved playing golf and played on Dixie Golf Association and also loved Auburn Football over the course of his eighty years. His love for the Lord and people, inspired family and friends to come to know Christ. He lived a life with faith, kindness and a loving heart. He was married fifty-five years to his sweetheart and was a devoted husband and father. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Betty Pate Howells of Macon, children, Jana Cansler (Tommy) of Dalton, Julie Pittman (Lamar) of Fyffe, Alabama and Virginia “Gini” Howells of Macon,sisters,Marguerite “Skippy” Smith (Bill) of Jacksonville, Florida and Suzanne Worsham of Macon, eight grandchildren, John Sheffield, Taylor Womack (Chase), Catherine Cansler, Paten Mander, Cameron Pittman, Gracie Cansler, Kaitlyn Pittman and Morgan Howells and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210, Hospice Care Options, 486 New Street, Macon, GA 31201 or to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
