Forsyth . . . Thomas "Tom" Eric Nehrling, 63, died August 4, 2012. Services and burial will be private.
Tom was born on January 5, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Elwood Karl and Dorothy (Jones) Nehrling. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and Mason City, Iowa. During his youth he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the Eagle Scout award and he also worked at the Boy Scout's Philmot Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico as a ranger. In high school he excelled in football on a championship team. He earned a B.S. from Utah State University in Outdoor Recreation and a M.S. from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in Recreation. During and after graduating from college Tom worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the White Mountains National Forest, New Hampshire and the Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana. While with the Forest Service Tom worked as a member of a hot shot fire team that fought forest fires throughout the western United States. For the past 25 years Tom worked in the asbestos abatement field in Texas, Louisiana and Georgia as an asbestos, lead paint and hazardous waste supervisor and expert. From the early 2000's until he passed away Tom worked for Southern Abatement Services of Forsyth, Georgia.
He is survived by his brother, Rick (Chris) Nehrling of Conyers and his nieces' Adrianne (Brian) Edwards, Tucker, Georgia, Erica Nehrling, Monticello, Illinois and Sally Nehrling, Washington DC.
